Now A $1mm Detroit Company – An Impact Success Story
We are excited to announce that we received a positive update from one of our borrowers today about the social impact that our loan made on their business. Motor City Grounds Crew is now a now a $1 mm company employing 10 WOTC eligible employees!
The mission of Motor City Grounds Crew (MCGC) is to improve the appearance of parks and neighborhoods for residents and visitors who live, work and play in Detroit. Their aim is to help stabilize communities by mowing, manicuring, and maintaining City of Detroit properties and adopted parks. The Motor City Grounds Crew was able to get a contract from the City of Detroit to provide park and community maintenance of vacant lots throughout the City of Detroit.
Originally, they received a contract to mow the vacant lots of the former Detroit public schools that had been closed down and were unkept. However, they but needed some equipment to fulfill their obligations. The timing didn’t match up for Motor City Grounds Crew to be able afford the equipment purchase.
We heard about their story and wanted to make an impact. In mid 2017, DRI stepped in and purchased equipment so they could fulfill obligation and keep their business contract. We did this as part of our micro lending program in underserved communities.
“DRI stepped in and provided us with the financing we were looking for and we were able to execute on the project immediately.” said the founder of Motor City Grounds Crew
As of April 2018, their Detroit city contract just increased to $600,000 and our loan helped them to get there. Keep up the great work Motor City Grounds Crew!
